But the battery is far more than just a replaceable consumable—it significantly influences how a drone behaves: how aggressively it accelerates, how stable it remains under load, how long it stays in the air, and how hot it gets in the process. LiPo batteries—lithium-polymer batteries that combine high energy density with very low internal impedance—dominate the FPV sector. This enables high discharge currents over short periods, which is essential for the explosive acceleration maneuvers of modern FPV drones. In addition to classic LiPos, LiHV batteries are also used for certain applications; these are designed for a higher nominal voltage per cell and deliver more energy in the same volume. The number of cells—abbreviated as the “S” number—determines the battery’s total voltage: 1S for micro-whoops, 2S for smaller builds, 4S for classic 5-inch setups, and 6S for high-performance freestyle and racing copters. The C-rating indicates the maximum continuous current relative to the battery’s capacity—the higher the C-rating, the more energy the battery can deliver at once without suffering damage.
